PhD thesis

On Friday 6, Jorge Blazquez-Prieto defended his PhD thesis. It was a great presentation including three outstanding works:

SEMICYUC annual conference

We have been in the Spanish Society of Intensive Care (SEMICYUC) annual conference. Here, we presented some of our new results coming from clinical research.

Laura Amado gave a talk on ultraprotective ventilation. This session focused in ARDS management was a great success. Congrats to all the speakers!

And Cecilia del Busto presented our data on frailty, mechanical ventilation and postICU outcomes. It’s a nice way to get feedback for the future paper. And more complex analyses are on the way.

The good side of neutrophils

Our review on the role of neutrophils in lung repair has been published in the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology. After our work in neutropenic patients, we started to study their role after the initial phases of damage.

From the abstract:

There is emerging evidence that neutrophils not only contribute to that early damage, but also orchestrate later repair.  This article reviews the effects of neutrophils in repair after acute lung injury, focusing on their role as biovectors for proteases and other molecules involved in tissue remodeling.
